La Porte, IN – Two La Porte men have been arrested after a monthlong investigation into the deaths of two dogs, according to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO).
A pet owner in the 5100 west block of County Road 150 North reported on October 21 that her Beagle had been found dead on nearby property. Deputies noted the dog had suffered a fatal rib cage injury, and the owner’s second dog, a Chocolate Labrador, was missing.
According to Chief of Detectives Captain Andy Hynek, investigators later interviewed a hunter who provided information implicating both John H. Lowe, 58, and Hayden M.C. Lowe, 22. The findings indicated that John Lowe was allegedly responsible for both dogs’ deaths, while Hayden Lowe allegedly discarded the Labrador’s body at a separate location.
The La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case, and arrest warrants were issued for both men. On November 2, deputies arrested the father and son and booked them into the La Porte County Jail.
John Lowe faces two Level 6 felony counts of killing a domestic animal and one Level 6 felony for obstruction of justice. Hayden Lowe faces one count of obstruction of justice, also a Level 6 felony. Both men were released later that evening after bond was posted.
The LCSO emphasized that all criminal charges are mere accusations and that both individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
