La Plata, Md. – Two Charles County crematory owners were arrested Friday on charges alleging unauthorized disposal of human remains.
According to the Maryland State Police, Rosa Iyonna Williams, 48, and Brandon Angelo Williams, 50, both of Waldorf, were each charged with eight violations of Maryland General Health Article §5-514, which covers unauthorized disposal of a body. The charges followed consultation with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Police said both were arrested at 9 a.m. Friday by members of the Maryland State Apprehension Team at the La Plata Barrack without incident. They were transported to a district court commissioner for an initial appearance.
The investigation began Feb. 10, 2025, after the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office requested a criminal probe into Heaven Bound Crematory following routine regulatory inspection violations. The business is located at 4445 Crain Highway in White Plains.
On Feb. 20, 2025, investigators executed authorized search warrants at the crematory and at a residence in Bensville. According to state police, detectives located documents, records, cremated human remains and multiple decomposing bodies at the residence. Authorities said an extensive investigation followed to identify the remains and notify family members.
Maryland State Police stated the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The case may affect families across Southern Maryland who relied on the crematory for funeral services, as state law strictly regulates the handling and disposition of remains.
The accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
