La Grange, IL – Drivers and pedestrians in La Grange should prepare for major delays starting Monday, September 22, as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) begins a bridge deck overlay project on Ogden Avenue. The work is expected to last through late November, significantly affecting traffic in the western suburbs.
According to IDOT, Ogden Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction between La Grange Road and East Avenue for the duration of construction. The reduction is likely to cause heavier congestion during peak travel times, especially for commuters heading toward Chicago.
Pedestrians will also face detours. According to the La Grange Police Department, foot traffic will be rerouted around the construction site via Washington, Lincoln, and Bluff avenues. Maps provided by authorities show redirection points along the closed sidewalks, with barricades in place to channel walkers safely around the zone.
Police said they will be increasing patrols in and around the construction area to help manage traffic and ensure pedestrian safety. Local drivers are advised to use caution, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes where possible.
The project is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at extending the lifespan of the Ogden Avenue Bridge, a key connection for drivers across Cook County.
Residents can find updates and full project details on IDOT’s official site.
