Pendleton, Oregon – A Wind Advisory signals gusts up to 45 mph in the Grande Ronde Valley on Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday for the Grande Ronde Valley, including La Grande and surrounding communities.
Forecasters expect sustained south-southeast winds of 30 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph throughout the day. Winds are forecast to strengthen early Saturday morning and remain elevated into the evening hours.
Travel along I-84 near La Grande and Baker City, as well as US-30 and OR-82, could be impacted by strong crosswinds, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks, trailers, and RVs.
Blowing debris and reduced vehicle stability are possible in open and exposed areas. The Weather Service classifies the overall wind threat as minor but cautions that localized impacts may still occur, especially on elevated roadways.
Drivers are encouraged to maintain extra distance between vehicles and remain alert for sudden gusts, particularly when passing through gaps in terrain or traveling across bridges.
Residents should secure loose outdoor objects and be prepared for isolated tree limbs to fall in stronger gusts.
The timing may be especially relevant for weekend travelers and early-shift workers commuting along I-84 Saturday morning.
Officials advise checking updated forecasts and road conditions before traveling, as wind speeds may fluctuate throughout the advisory period.
