La Crosse, WI – Near-record warmth is surging into western Wisconsin today, but a quick shift to stormy conditions could disrupt travel by Monday night, with hail emerging as the primary threat.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, temperatures will climb into the low 60s today under clearing skies, then spike into the 70s Monday, approaching record levels for late March. This warm, unstable air mass will set the stage for thunderstorms developing Monday night.

Communities along the Mississippi River Valley, including La Crosse, Onalaska, and Winona, could see storms capable of producing hail and heavy rain after sunset Monday. Travel along U.S. 14, U.S. 61, and Interstate 90 may be impacted overnight as storms move through the region.

Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions by Monday evening, securing outdoor items and monitoring alerts. Even isolated stronger storms could produce localized impacts, especially with hail.

Cooler air returns by Tuesday, dropping highs back into the 50s with lingering chances for showers. Additional advisories may be issued as Monday night’s storm potential becomes clearer.
