La Crosse, Wisconsin – A stifling surge of heat and humidity will blanket much of Wisconsin on Friday, with heat indices soaring as high as 102°F in some areas and the worst conditions expected from noon to 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the combination of soaring temperatures and oppressive humidity will push apparent temperatures into the upper 90s and low 100s across central and western parts of the state. Cities like La Crosse, Richland Center, and Prairie du Chien could feel like 100°F or more, while Eau Claire and Black River Falls may also hit the upper 90s.

Heat-related illness is possible, especially for those without air conditioning or individuals spending extended time outdoors. Health officials urge residents to limit strenuous activities during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors, especially the elderly.

Lightweight clothing, plenty of water, and time in air-conditioned spaces are key. Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for a few minutes.

This stretch of extreme heat could continue into the weekend, with additional advisories possible depending on updated forecasts.
