LA CROSSE, Wis. – A chilly overnight plunge will bring the first widespread frost of the season to western Wisconsin early Saturday, threatening sensitive vegetation across Adams, Juneau, and Monroe Counties.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday, with temperatures expected to dip into the low to mid-30s. Light winds and clear skies will create ideal conditions for frost formation in low-lying and sheltered areas.

Gardeners and homeowners are urged to cover outdoor plants or move containers indoors before midnight to prevent damage. The advisory includes the communities of Tomah, Sparta, Mauston, and Friendship, where patchy frost could appear on lawns and windshields before sunrise.

According to forecasters, motorists traveling early along I-90 and Highway 12 should be cautious of localized frost and possible fog pockets reducing visibility. Frost-covered bridges and shaded roadways may also become slick in the coldest spots.

Temperatures will rebound into the upper 50s Saturday afternoon, but another cold night is possible early next week as fall’s chill deepens across western and central Wisconsin.
