LA CROSSE, Wis. – A light layer of fog hangs over the Mississippi River this morning, softening the glow of early November sunlight. Frost sparkles on rooftops while the air feels crisp and still, a quiet pause before warmer weather arrives.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, patchy fog may linger through mid-morning, especially near river valleys and low-lying areas. Visibility could drop quickly at times, so drivers along I-90 and Highway 35 should use caution and keep headlights on until conditions improve.

Once the fog lifts, sunshine will take over with highs reaching near 50°F by afternoon. Monday brings a stronger push of mild air, lifting temperatures into the upper 50s under clear skies and a light westerly breeze. By Tuesday, highs could climb near 60°F, marking a comfortable early-November stretch for outdoor work or leaf cleanup before the next weather change later in the week.

The calm conditions are temporary. Clouds are expected to increase by Thursday, with scattered showers possible by Friday as another system slides in from the Plains. Temperatures will stay mild but could trend cooler into the weekend.

NOAA’s La Niña Advisory continues to highlight temperature swings across the Upper Midwest this winter, meaning these mild days may be fleeting. For now, though, La Crosse and surrounding western Wisconsin communities can enjoy a few golden, sunny afternoons — a late-autumn reprieve before the first flakes of November make their move farther north.
