La Crosse, Wisconsin – A Weather Alert is in effect as snow continues moving east through western Wisconsin, creating hazardous travel conditions for the Wednesday evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, snowfall remains ongoing as of 4:30 p.m., with road conditions deteriorating across the area. Visibility is dropping to less than one mile at times in heavier snow bands, making driving difficult, especially during peak travel hours.

Forecasters report areas of snow and blowing snow producing reduced visibilities and slippery road surfaces, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected in parts of the region, with the most rapid impacts occurring as bands of heavier snow move through.

The Weather Alert highlights blowing and drifting snow, which may cause sudden changes in visibility for drivers. Gusty winds are contributing to hazardous conditions, especially in open and rural areas.

Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use extra caution if travel is necessary this evening. Delaying travel plans is advised where possible until conditions improve.

The National Weather Service says snow is expected to gradually diminish later this evening, though slick spots may persist overnight as temperatures remain cold.

Additional updates will be issued if conditions worsen or persist longer than expected.
