La Crosse, Wisconsin – A gradual warming trend is expected across western Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota, and northeast Iowa this week, with temperatures climbing above normal by Thursday and limited chances for light snow.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the near-term forecast calls for quiet weather conditions, with daytime highs slowly increasing through midweek. Temperatures early in the week will remain cold, with highs generally in the teens to low 20s today and Tuesday, before moderating further on Wednesday.
There is a low chance (around 20 percent) for light snow tonight, mainly across northeast Iowa, while flurries are possible elsewhere in the region. Forecasters note that any snow that does fall is expected to be light, with little to no accumulation anticipated.
By Thursday, a more noticeable warmup arrives, with high temperatures reaching the upper 20s to mid-30s, marking a shift to above-normal temperatures for early February. This warmer pattern is expected to persist through much of the weekend, improving conditions for travel and outdoor activities.
Major travel routes including Interstate 90 near La Crosse and Winona, Interstate 94, US-52, and US-18 are expected to see generally favorable driving conditions, with minimal winter weather impacts. Drivers should remain alert tonight for isolated slick spots where light snow or flurries occur, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Overnight lows will still dip into the single digits to teens early in the week, which may allow frost or light ice to form in areas that receive flurries. However, the overall trend favors milder afternoons and quieter weather as the week progresses.
Commuters, students, and outdoor workers may notice the improving conditions most clearly later in the week as temperatures climb above freezing during the daytime.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for any changes, but no significant winter weather hazards are expected during this period.
