Wisconsin – Skies are turning unsettled across La Crosse as warm, humid air builds, setting the stage for strong thunderstorms that could hit fast and hard later today.
According to the National Weather Service, a line of storms is expected to develop this afternoon and push east across western Wisconsin, with large hail near 2 inches, wind gusts up to 70 mph, and heavy rainfall as the primary threats. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out if storms intensify quickly.
Storms will begin developing by mid-afternoon, first west of La Crosse, then spreading toward the Mississippi River and into downtown areas by evening. Roads along U.S. 53 and I-90 could become slick with sudden downpours, reducing visibility during peak travel hours.
Rain chances remain elevated into Tuesday, with scattered storms continuing through the day and into the evening. While not all storms will be severe, repeated rounds of rain could lead to ponding on roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas.
By Wednesday, showers become more widespread again, with rain chances climbing as high as 70 percent. Temperatures cool slightly into the upper 60s and near 70, keeping conditions damp and unsettled.
Later in the week, a gradual break develops with partial sunshine Thursday before another round of showers and storms returns Friday into the weekend. There is even a low-end chance for a rain-snow mix by Saturday night as colder air filters in.
