La Crosse, Wisconsin – Mild, dry weather will continue across the Upper Mississippi River Valley through midweek before rain chances return Thursday, potentially affecting travel on Interstate 90 and other regional highways.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in La Crosse, temperatures today will climb into the upper 30s to mid-40s across western Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota, and northeast Iowa. These readings are above normal for early February and will support generally favorable driving conditions along I-90, U.S. 14, and U.S. 52.
Conditions remain quiet Tuesday and Wednesday, with daytime highs largely staying in the mid-30s to low 40s. Overnight lows will dip into the teens and 20s, which may allow for refreezing on untreated roads during early morning hours, particularly on secondary routes and bridges.
The pattern begins to change late Wednesday night into Thursday as precipitation chances increase across the region. The National Weather Service reports widespread precipitation probabilities between 30% and 50% by Thursday. Current forecasts suggest precipitation will mainly fall as rain in lower elevations, though a rain-snow mix cannot be ruled out during cooler periods, especially during the morning commute.
High temperatures Thursday are expected to range from the low 30s to near 40 degrees, which could lead to wet road conditions on major corridors such as I-90 near La Crosse, I-94 north of Rochester, and U.S. 61 along the Mississippi River.
Commuters, students, and young workers should plan for changing road conditions late in the week, particularly during peak travel hours. While no significant winter storm impacts are expected at this time, wet roads and fluctuating temperatures could slow travel.
Forecasters emphasize that precipitation type and timing may shift, and drivers are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and local road conditions as Thursday approaches.
