Wisconsin – A calm, cool start is giving way to bright sunshine across La Crosse this morning, but a sharp swing in conditions is already lining up for the next few days.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures climb quickly today with sunshine taking over, pushing highs near 65°F before an even warmer surge arrives Monday.
That surge peaks fast. Highs reach the mid-70s Monday, bringing a brief “summer tease” across western Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota. Light winds and dry air make for a comfortable stretch, but it won’t last.
Changes begin Monday night.
Showers and thunderstorms develop late, with around a 40% chance of rain. The system lingers into Tuesday, bringing scattered showers and cooler air. Highs drop back into the mid-50s, and gusty northwest winds begin to pull colder air into the region.
By Wednesday, the shift becomes more noticeable.
Temperatures struggle to reach the upper 40s, and by evening, colder air may allow rain to mix with or change to snow. Even light accumulation could create slick spots, especially on bridges and untreated roads.
Drivers along Highway 53, I-90, and rural routes near the Mississippi River should stay alert for changing road conditions. This is prime time for “flash freezing,” where wet surfaces refreeze quickly after sunset.
Plan ahead now. Enjoy the warmth early, but prepare for colder, wetter travel by midweek.
Looking toward early April, temperatures trend upward again, signaling a return to more typical spring conditions after this quick cooldown.
