La Crosse, Wis. – Motorists along I-90 and US-53 should watch for isolated slick spots before 8 a.m. Tuesday as patchy freezing drizzle develops with temperatures hovering near 32 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a brief window of light drizzle or freezing drizzle is possible late Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Surface temperatures near or just below freezing could allow thin ice to form on bridges, overpasses and untreated secondary roads. The risk diminishes quickly after sunrise as readings climb into the 40s and lower 50s by afternoon.

Above-normal warmth builds steadily through midweek. Highs reach the low to mid-50s Wednesday and Thursday across western Wisconsin, including Onalaska and Holmen. By Friday, temperatures could surge toward the upper 50s and lower 60s, accelerating snowmelt and increasing runoff into area streams.

Rain chances expand Wednesday and Thursday, though early accumulations remain light. The more widespread rainfall is expected Friday, which may create wet travel conditions along WI-35 and stretches of I-90 during the evening commute. Ponding on roadways becomes more likely where storm drains remain blocked by residual snow and debris.

Drivers should reduce speed during the Tuesday morning commute and remain alert for black ice in shaded areas. Later in the week, clear storm drains near homes and businesses to limit localized flooding.

Conditions improve rapidly after midmorning Tuesday, but additional rain chances continue through Friday night as the warming trend holds into the weekend.
