La Crosse, WI – A concentrated band of snow will move into western Wisconsin around daybreak Saturday, quickly covering I-90 with up to 4 inches and creating hazardous travel before midday.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, accumulating snow will spread into the region early Saturday morning and continue through the afternoon before tapering off by early evening. Most communities can expect between 1 and 4 inches of snow, with locally higher totals nearing 6 inches possible within the narrow band of heaviest snowfall.

The most intense snowfall rates are expected between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., when visibility may drop below one mile in bursts of moderate to heavy snow. Roads could become snow-covered quickly, especially along Interstate 90 from Onalaska to Tomah and along U.S. Highway 14 toward Viroqua. If the heavier band shifts slightly north or south, impacts could expand toward Black River Falls or into northeast Iowa.

Bridges, overpasses and untreated secondary roads will become slick first. Plow crews will be active, but rapid accumulation may outpace treatment during peak snowfall.

Drivers should consider delaying travel during the late morning and early afternoon hours. Reduce speeds, allow extra stopping distance and check 511 Wisconsin before departure.

Snow will taper toward early Saturday evening, but slick spots may linger after sunset as temperatures remain cold. Additional advisories are possible if the heavier snow band shifts position.
