La Crosse, Wisconsin – Two rounds of snow are expected to impact the La Crosse area beginning Tuesday evening, with accumulating snowfall likely to create slippery travel conditions through Wednesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the first and more impactful round of snow is forecast to arrive Tuesday evening and continue overnight, with a west-to-east band producing 2 to 4 inches of snow by sunrise Wednesday. Confidence is high, estimated at 70–90%, that snow will occur, though forecasters note the exact track could still shift by several counties.
A second round of snow is expected to move through Wednesday afternoon, bringing up to an additional inch before exiting the region Wednesday evening. While lighter than the first round, this second system could still contribute to travel delays.
The NWS warns that commute times could be affected both Tuesday evening and Wednesday, particularly during the Wednesday morning drive, when snowfall totals will be highest. Reduced visibility and snow-covered roads are possible during periods of steadier snow.
Drivers should use caution on Interstate 90, U.S. Highway 14, Highway 16, and local roads, where slick conditions may develop quickly. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways are expected to become hazardous during heavier snow bands.
Forecasters advise residents to monitor forecast updates closely, as small shifts in the snow band could significantly impact local snowfall totals. Travel plans during peak commute hours may need extra time.
Students, workers, and early-morning commuters in the La Crosse area should prepare for slower travel conditions Wednesday morning and remain alert for changing road conditions throughout the day.
Additional updates are expected as the systems approach and move through the region.
