La Crosse, WI – A new round of accumulating snow is expected to move into western and southern Wisconsin Thursday afternoon, potentially impacting the evening commute, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) La Crosse.
Forecasters say the storm system will bring a band of 2 to 4 inches of snow, primarily falling south of Interstate 94, with localized higher totals possible. Snow is expected to begin Thursday afternoon, continue through the night, and taper off early Friday morning.
The NWS cautions that reduced visibility and slippery travel conditions could develop during the evening hours as snow intensity increases. While the exact placement of the heaviest band remains uncertain, even a small shift north or south could alter snowfall amounts across the La Crosse area.
“Motorists should prepare for potentially slick roads, especially along the I-90 and I-94 corridors,” the NWS said in its latest update. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra time to reach their destinations, particularly during peak commute hours Thursday evening.
Behind the system, colder air will settle into the region Friday, with temperatures dropping into the 20s and low 30s and wind chills near the teens by morning.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for timing and accumulation changes as the system approaches. Snowplow crews may be active overnight to manage icy patches and snow buildup.
