La Crosse, Wisconsin – Drivers across the La Crosse area are facing slippery and hazardous travel conditions this morning as strong overnight winds have blown snow back onto roadways, leaving many routes partially snow covered. The worst conditions are showing up on less-traveled roads, bridges, and rural stretches where snow has drifted back across lanes.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, gusty winds overnight and into the morning hours are causing blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility at times and creating slick driving conditions. Officials warn that even roads that appeared clear late Sunday may have deteriorated quickly overnight as winds pushed snow back onto the pavement.
Roads in La Crosse County, including portions of I-90, U.S. 14, U.S. 61, and county highways, are seeing patchy slick spots, particularly on bridges and secondary roads. Wisconsin DOT plow cameras show snow-covered lanes in spots, and drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and be alert for sudden changes in traction.
Blowing snow and slippery conditions are expected to continue through mid-morning before gradually improving as winds ease. Motorists are encouraged to check current road conditions before heading out and delay travel if possible. Additional travel advisories could be issued if conditions worsen or linger longer than expected.
