La Crosse, WI – The National Weather Service in La Crosse has issued a Freeze Warning for much of western and central Wisconsin tonight, as temperatures are forecast to plummet into the 20s and low 30s overnight.
Forecasters warn that these cold conditions will lead to a widespread freeze, marking an end to the growing season for many areas. Sensitive vegetation and garden plants could be killed or damaged if left unprotected.
The warning will remain in effect through early Friday morning, with frost and subfreezing temperatures expected in counties stretching from La Crosse and Eau Claire to Richland Center and Prairie du Chien.
Residents are advised to cover plants or bring them indoors and take necessary precautions to protect outdoor plumbing or other temperature-sensitive materials. Warmer conditions are expected to return by the weekend, with highs rebounding into the upper 50s and 60s.
