La Crosse, Wis. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across Wisconsin on Monday, bringing threats of tornadoes, large hail, and localized flooding—particularly from La Crosse to Wausau by late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the storms will likely develop Monday afternoon and intensify into the evening, traveling west to east across the state. Central and western Wisconsin—including La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Tomah—sit in a moderate risk zone where tornadoes and strong winds are possible.
The most dangerous storms are forecast to strike between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., with all severe weather types on the table. Communities such as Rice Lake, Stevens Point, and Prairie du Chien may experience damaging wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to two inches in diameter. Localized flooding could also occur in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Residents are urged to monitor forecasts closely and have multiple ways to receive alerts. Secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and review emergency plans, especially if traveling.
Warnings remain in effect through Monday night. Additional alerts may be issued as the system evolves.
