La Crosse, Wis. – Much of Wisconsin faces a growing threat of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with damaging winds and isolated tornadoes possible from 1 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. Counties from La Crosse to Green Bay sit under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse and Green Bay, two rounds of storms are expected. The first could bring isolated tornado activity early in the day, followed by a stronger line of storms after 4 p.m. capable of wind gusts over 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and torrential rainfall. Confidence is highest south of Highway 10 and along Highway 29, where warm front activity is expected to intensify.

Cities including La Crosse, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin Rapids, and Green Bay should prepare for fast-moving systems that may trigger scattered power outages and localized flooding. Drivers are urged to avoid travel during peak storm hours and secure outdoor items that could become projectiles.

Severe weather watches or warnings may be issued later today. Residents should monitor NOAA Weather Radio and local alerts.
