La Crosse, WI – A major winter storm is set to impact parts of northeast Iowa, southwest Wisconsin, and southeast Minnesota from Friday night through early Sunday, bringing heavy snow, low visibility, and hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse.

Snow is expected to begin late Friday and intensify through the day Saturday, when the heaviest snowfall will occur. Accumulations between 8 to 15 inches are forecast in the hardest-hit areas, including La Crosse, Prairie du Chien, Decorah, and Mason City, with slightly lower totals northward toward Rochester and Eau Claire.

Forecasters note that lighter winds will reduce blowing and drifting, but snow-covered roads and reduced visibility will still create dangerous travel conditions. The storm is expected to taper off by early Sunday morning.

Residents are urged to delay any unnecessary travel, check that snow removal equipment is ready, and ensure they have essential supplies for the weekend. The NWS also advises staying updated on forecast changes, as the exact track of the storm could shift the band of heaviest snow slightly north or south.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Little Rock, Arkansas, is monitoring two weaker storm systems that could bring light precipitation this weekend and early next week. A few flakes of snow can’t be ruled out Monday, though accumulations are unlikely.
