La Crosse, Wisconsin – Periods of light snow are expected to continue across western Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota through Saturday, with increasing winds Friday raising the risk for blowing snow and reduced visibility.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, snow showers are moving into the region Friday afternoon and will persist into Saturday. While snowfall rates are expected to remain generally light, additional accumulations of up to 2 inches are possible, particularly in areas that see repeated snow showers.
Winds are forecast to strengthen Friday afternoon, and when combined with falling snow, may lead to blowing snow and localized reductions in visibility, especially west of the Mississippi River. These conditions could create brief travel difficulties, even where snowfall totals remain modest.
Forecasters note that the greatest risk for reduced visibility will occur during the afternoon and early evening hours Friday as snow showers and gusty winds overlap. Snow is expected to continue intermittently overnight and into Saturday, though impacts are expected to remain localized rather than widespread.
Road conditions may deteriorate quickly during heavier snow showers, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and rural highways. Visibility may change rapidly over short distances due to blowing snow.
Motorists are advised to monitor updated forecasts, slow down when encountering snow-covered roads, and allow extra travel time. Those traveling Friday evening or early Saturday should be prepared for winter driving conditions.
For commuters and regional travelers, even light snow combined with wind may cause brief slowdowns and reduced visibility during peak travel periods.
The National Weather Service recommends continuing to monitor local forecasts as snow coverage and impacts may vary significantly across the region.
