Hanford, CA – A Monday afternoon gunfire report in a Hanford neighborhood led to the arrest of a convicted felon after deputies recovered a firearm and ammunition, according to the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls around 6:16 p.m. Monday reporting gunfire near the 9500 block of Eastview Drive in the Home Gardens community. Callers described shots coming from a specific residence, prompting deputies to respond to the area.
When deputies arrived, they identified the residence and contacted a male later identified as Flavio Roberto Villa Aguilar, 41, of Hanford, authorities said. Deputies noted Aguilar was wearing a black nylon satchel-style bag across his chest, which they recognized as commonly used to conceal firearms. Investigators also observed several spent shell casings scattered across the front yard, including some located near where Aguilar was first contacted.
Deputies attempted to speak with Aguilar, but authorities say he tried to retreat into the home and failed to comply with repeated commands. Deputies then attempted to detain and search him for weapons. Aguilar allegedly resisted and had to be physically restrained after reaching toward the satchel, according to officials. No injuries were reported.
A search of the bag reportedly revealed an unloaded Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm pistol with the slide locked back and an empty 10-round magazine inserted. Deputies also found 17 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, which authorities said matched the brand of shell casings located in the yard.
Investigators confirmed Aguilar is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. He was booked into the Kings County Jail on multiple charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, negligent discharge of a firearm, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. Bail was set at $85,000.
