Kimball Township, MI: 1 Dead After Tractor, Car Collide on Smiths Creek Rd

Kimball Township, MI – One woman is dead and several others are injured after a tractor pulling a hay wagon was struck by a car in Kimball Township on Saturday evening, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the crash occurred on Smiths Creek Road west of Burns Road just before 7:30 p.m. on October 11, 2025. Deputies and Michigan State Police responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a serious accident involving multiple injuries.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 79-year-old man from Kimball Township was driving the tractor with five passengers when it was rear-ended by a Buick Regal driven by a 44-year-old Kimball Township man. Investigators said the tractor was traveling westbound without proper rear lights or a slow-moving vehicle emblem when it was hit from behind.

All occupants were treated by Tri Hospital EMS and Kimball Township Fire Department before being taken to local hospitals. The 85-year-old female passenger from Kimball Township later died from her injuries. A 77-year-old female passenger suffered serious injuries, while three others — ages 67, 62, and 54 — sustained minor injuries.

The tractor driver remains in critical condition. The Buick driver was treated for minor injuries. The incident remains under investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team.
