An Illinois man was arrested Tuesday in Kewanee following a joint investigation into the manufacturing and sale of 3D-printed firearms.
According to the Kewanee Police Department, officers assisted the Black Hawk Area Task Force in executing a search warrant on the 1200 block of Roseview Avenue. The search resulted in the seizure of 10 non-serialized firearms, a silencer, 3D printing equipment, a computer, and a large amount of ammunition. The suspect, identified as Bobby Charlet, 24, of Kewanee, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Henry County Jail.
On Wednesday, the Henry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed formal charges against Charlet, including gunrunning, possession of a silencer, and unlawful sale or delivery of firearms. He was also charged with 10 counts related to the serialization of unfinished frames or receivers. Gunrunning, a Class 1 felony, carries a potential sentence of 4 to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Charlet was granted pretrial release and remains presumed innocent as the investigation into 3D-printed gun manufacturing continues.
