Authorities later learned the suspect vehicle was involved in a traffic collision around 6:00 p.m. on eastbound Highway 58, just east of Weedpatch Highway. At the same time, a gunshot victim was privately transported to a hospital, and investigators determined the incident was connected to the original shooting call.
Deputies responded to the crash scene and attempted to contact the suspect. During that encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
