Maysville, Kentucky – Drivers across northeast Kentucky should prepare for slick bridges and icy back roads by 3 a.m. Monday as snow and freezing precipitation move in ahead of the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday for Lewis, Bracken, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Mason, Owen, Pendleton and Robertson counties. Forecasters expect up to 1 inch of snow, along with several hundredths of an inch of ice accumulation — enough to create hazardous travel, especially on untreated surfaces.
Communities including Maysville, Carrollton, Williamstown, Dry Ridge and Falmouth could see snow-covered secondary roads before sunrise. Bridges and overpasses on U.S. 68, U.S. 27 and KY 9 are particularly vulnerable to icing as temperatures dip below freezing. Rural roads in Owen and Robertson counties may remain slick through midmorning.
State transportation officials urge motorists to slow down and check conditions at goky.ky.gov before heading out. Allow extra stopping distance and use caution on stairs, sidewalks and driveways, where a thin ice glaze could increase fall risk.
Road conditions should gradually improve after 11 a.m., but lingering slick spots may persist into the midday hours.
