Jackson, KY – A winter weather advisory is in effect for portions of eastern Kentucky beginning Thursday evening, with snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, snow will begin developing rapidly this evening, continuing through the early hours of Friday. Counties under advisory include Fleming, Laurel, and Letcher, among others. Snowfall accumulations are expected to reach up to two inches in lower areas, with isolated totals of five inches possible in higher elevations.

The advisory, which remains active until 10 a.m. Friday, warns of slippery road conditions. These hazards could significantly affect commutes Thursday evening and Friday morning. The snow may briefly mix with drizzle or freezing drizzle early Friday, though additional impacts are anticipated to be minimal.

Residents are urged to exercise caution while traveling and to allow extra time for commutes. For up-to-date road conditions, officials recommend visiting GoKY or dialing 511.
