Kentucky starts the morning under a gray, snowy haze as steady flakes drift across Louisville and southern Indiana. Pavement is slushy and wet, and each passing car kicks up a mist that quickly chills in the crisp December air. It’s a scene that signals a true winter transition as the region fights through lingering impacts of an early-season storm.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning continues until late morning for Jefferson, Oldham, Trimble, Clark, Floyd, Harrison, and surrounding counties. Snowfall totals of 3 to 5 inches have already coated the region, leaving hazardous travel conditions on I-65, I-64, and the Gene Snyder. Drivers should slow down, expect patches of black ice, and allow extra space—especially on bridges and ramps.

Meteorologists now track a second disturbance that may bring another round of light accumulating snow Saturday night into Sunday morning, mainly across northern Kentucky and southern Indiana. Even minor snowfall may cause issues because temperatures will fall sharply.

The coldest air of the season pushes in late Sunday. Lows may drop into the single digits, and wind chills could fall into the 10 below to 10 above zero range. That cold is strong enough to freeze untreated pavement quickly, increasing the risk of spinouts and delays for early-week commuters.

Residents heading out for holiday shopping or weekend events should bundle up, check road conditions, and expect changing weather through Sunday.
