Jackson, Kentucky – Eastern Kentucky residents will see a brief stretch of dry, springlike weather before a wetter and more unsettled pattern moves in late Thursday and continues into the weekend, with temperatures running well above normal for January.

According to the National Weather Service office in Jackson, dry conditions are expected through Thursday afternoon as temperatures steadily climb. Highs today range from the lower 50s to mid-60s, with partly sunny skies and light winds. Thursday turns even warmer, with afternoon temperatures reaching the mid-60s to near 70 degrees across many valleys and ridge tops.

Changes arrive Thursday night as moisture increases and rain chances begin to spread into the region. By Friday, showers become widespread, with rain probabilities climbing to near 100 percent in some locations. Communities including Hazard, Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Morehead, and London could see periods of steady rainfall that may impact travel and outdoor plans.

Despite the rain, temperatures remain mild, with highs Friday staying in the mid-60s to lower 70s and overnight lows well above freezing. No winter weather impacts are expected during this period, but wet roads and reduced visibility may slow travel at times.

The unsettled pattern is expected to persist into Saturday, and additional rounds of rain are possible. Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service as timing and rainfall coverage become clearer later this week.
