Paducah, KY – Residents across western Kentucky are being urged to prepare for a wet weekend as a cold front moves through the region, bringing showers and thunderstorms Saturday into Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the storms could produce periods of heavy rainfall capable of causing localized flooding, particularly in low-lying or poor drainage areas. While forecasters say there is uncertainty in the development of severe thunderstorms due to limited instability, the main concern will likely be heavy rain.
The Excessive Rainfall Outlook places parts of western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southeast Missouri in a slight risk category for heavy rain through Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Severe Weather Outlook shows a marginal risk for strong storms, including areas such as Paducah, Mayfield, and Murray.
Forecasters say the best chance for heavy rainfall will occur late Saturday into Saturday night as the cold front advances eastward. Motorists and residents are advised to monitor updates and avoid flooded roads.
Additional rainfall could contribute to ponding on roads and minor flooding in creeks or streams. The Weather Service emphasized that updates will continue as models refine the track and intensity of the approaching front.
