Paducah, Kentucky – A mix of scattered rain, isolated thunderstorms, and cold air funnel clouds is expected to continue through Sunday evening. These weather conditions, along with lightning and small hail, may cause brief but heavy downpours and visibility issues.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the setup is favorable for the development of cold air funnel clouds, particularly on Saturday. These clouds can appear ominous but typically do not reach the ground. If they do, any resulting damage is generally minimal. NWS also notes that these funnels are difficult to detect on radar, and a Special Weather Statement may be issued to alert the public.
In the coming hours, rain chances will increase for areas along and east of the Mississippi River, with the heaviest showers likely impacting the Evansville Tri-State area. Rain will taper off by Sunday evening, leaving dry conditions behind for much of Kentucky by Monday morning. High temperatures on Sunday are expected to reach the mid-60s to low 70s across the state, with cooler conditions in southern regions.
Residents are advised to monitor local weather reports for updates, as more warnings could follow depending on developments. Stay alert to the possibility of brief, intense storms and be cautious on the roads during heavy downpours.
