Paducah, KY – A typical midsummer weather pattern will continue across western Kentucky and surrounding portions of the Mid-South over the next several days, bringing daily chances for showers and thunderstorms before dangerous heat builds this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, on-and-off chances for mainly daytime showers and thunderstorms are expected each day through at least Monday. While not every community will receive rainfall, scattered storms may produce heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds during the afternoon and evening hours.

High temperatures are forecast to range from the mid-80s to lower 90s through Friday before climbing into the upper 80s to upper 90s over the weekend. Forecast highs include 85 to 91 degrees Wednesday, 85 to 92 degrees Thursday, 85 to 91 degrees Friday, 88 to 95 degrees Saturday, 88 to 96 degrees Sunday, and 89 to 98 degrees Monday.

As temperatures rise and humidity remains high, heat index values are expected to increase to between 99 and 105 degrees beginning Saturday and continuing into early next week.

The National Weather Service urges residents to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks if working or exercising outdoors, and limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. People should also check on older adults, young children, and others who are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

Motorists are reminded never to leave children or pets unattended inside parked vehicles, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.

Residents should continue monitoring the latest forecasts, as both thunderstorm timing and heat headlines could change as the weekend approaches.
