LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Strong southerly winds are racing across Kentucky and southern Indiana overnight, ushering in a fast-moving cold front that could knock down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages before dawn. The National Weather Service in Louisville said a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. EDT (8 a.m. CDT) Sunday for the entire region, including Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, and Jasper, Indiana.

According to the Weather Service, sustained south winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected, with isolated gusts to 50 mph possible just ahead of the front. The strongest winds will occur in the pre-dawn hours, particularly along the I-65 and Bluegrass Parkway corridors, before briefly easing behind the frontal passage early Sunday morning.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash bins, and decorations to prevent damage. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution, especially on open stretches of I-64, I-71, and U.S. 68, where crosswinds may be strongest.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will decrease midmorning, but a secondary round of 25–35 mph gusts is likely Sunday afternoon as cooler air filters in behind the front.
