PADUCAH, Ky. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep across southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky this afternoon and evening, bringing damaging winds, hail, and pockets of heavy rain through late tonight. The National Weather Service in Paducah warns that some storms could produce 60–70 mph wind gusts and a brief tornado or two.

According to the NWS Paducah office, scattered storms will develop between 2 and 7 p.m. across southeast Missouri before organizing into a fast-moving line. That line is forecast to reach the Mississippi River corridor between 8 and 10 p.m., then track into western Kentucky—including Paducah, Murray, and Madisonville—between 9 p.m. and midnight.

Rainfall totals of 1.5 to 2.5 inches are possible across the heaviest storm zones in southern Illinois and southeast Missouri, where localized flooding may develop. The weather service cautions that while widespread flash flooding is not anticipated, low-lying roads could briefly flood under stronger storms.

Motorists along I-24, I-57, and U.S. 60 should prepare for sudden visibility drops and strong crosswinds. Outdoor events this evening should have a shelter plan ready, and residents are urged to secure loose items ahead of gusty winds.

Power outages may occur where storms hit hardest, particularly under falling limbs or lightning strikes. The National Weather Service advises staying indoors during lightning and avoiding flooded roads overnight.
