Louisville, KY – Heavy rainfall continues across Kentucky today with more storms expected through late Thursday, raising concerns for localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are forecast to bring between 1 and 2.5 inches of additional rainfall to much of the state. Some areas could still see locally higher totals over 3 inches.

The weather service warned early Wednesday that repeated downpours could lead to flash flooding in vulnerable locations, particularly in central and eastern Kentucky. Counties including Jefferson, Fayette, Madison, and surrounding areas are most at risk for heavier rainfall amounts.

Storm activity will be spread across the day and night, but officials emphasized that today’s rainfall will be the most significant. Motorists are advised to watch for water on roadways, especially during peak commuting hours, and residents in flood-prone areas should remain alert for sudden changes in conditions.

Forecasters have placed the region under a “slight risk” for excessive rainfall, meaning flash flooding is possible where storms stall or repeatedly track over the same areas. Rain chances are expected to diminish by late Thursday as the system moves east.
