Louisville, KY – A strong autumn storm system is forecast to sweep across Kentucky late Saturday night, bringing wind gusts up to 45 mph, scattered showers, and potential travel hazards through Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a powerful cold front will move eastward across Indiana and Kentucky beginning this evening. Winds will increase through the afternoon, with gusts of 20 to 25 mph before storms arrive. As the front pushes through overnight, wind gusts could reach 40 to 45 mph, particularly across open areas and ridgetops.

Forecasters warn that loose outdoor decorations, fall festival tents, and tree branches may be blown down during the strongest winds. “Most foliage remains on trees, increasing the potential for scattered power outages,” the Weather Service noted.

After a brief lull early Sunday, winds will shift west and remain strong through sunset, gusting 25 to 35 mph across much of the state. Drivers should watch for slick roads caused by wet leaves and fallen debris, especially on rural and shaded routes.

Residents across Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, and Pikeville are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for minor disruptions through Sunday afternoon.
