Kentucky roads glisten with standing water this morning as creeks push against their banks in and around Jackson. Pockets of minor flooding linger after 1 to 2 inches of rain soaked parts of Breathitt, Perry, Magoffin, and Wolfe counties. A Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m., and some low-water crossings are still covered.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, minor flooding continues in low-lying and poor drainage areas, especially near Sikes, Clayhole, and Lost Creek. Additional rainfall up to 0.2 inches is possible early today, though the heaviest rain has ended.
Do not drive through flooded roads.
Temperatures climb toward 59 degrees by midday with partial sunshine returning. West southwest winds increase to 10 mph, with gusts up to 24 mph, helping dry pavement along KY-15 and KY-30. Still, shaded spots may remain slick.
Tonight, skies clear and temperatures fall sharply to 39 degrees. Any leftover moisture could refreeze in colder valleys. Flash freezing becomes a concern this time of year when wet roads cool quickly after sunset.
Saturday stays mostly sunny near 55 degrees. By Saturday night, rain redevelops after 1 a.m., then may mix with snow as temperatures dip to 32 degrees. That transition bears watching.
Sunday turns colder with a high near 37 degrees and a 20% chance of snow after 1 p.m. Snow chances increase to 40% Sunday night as lows drop to 24 degrees. Light accumulations are possible on grassy surfaces.
Plan extra time if traveling Sunday night into early Monday.
Early next week stays chilly, with highs in the 30s and low 40s. However, the 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures building by midweek, hinting at early spring warmth returning to eastern Kentucky.
