LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Warm fall sunshine won’t last long in the Bluegrass as a storm system targets central Kentucky this weekend with rain, thunder, and a noticeable cooldown. Residents and travelers along I-65 and I-64 should plan for changing weather conditions late Saturday into early Sunday.

The National Weather Service in Louisville expects Thursday to stay pleasant, with highs around 72°F under gradually clearing skies. Friday remains mild as clouds increase and temperatures climb to the low 70s, setting the stage for a stormy shift Saturday afternoon.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop between 3 and 5 p.m. Saturday, intensifying by evening as a cold front moves across the Ohio Valley. Gusty winds up to 25 mph and brief downpours may slow travel and disrupt outdoor events. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, isolated rumbles of thunder and heavy rainfall could create brief ponding on roadways.

By Sunday morning, the front moves east, leaving behind cooler, drier air and highs in the mid-60s. Skies clear by Monday with highs near 68°F—perfect for fall festivals, pumpkin patches, or outdoor decorating ahead of Halloween.

Those planning to travel or attend outdoor events Saturday should monitor local forecasts and have a backup plan in place. The pattern turns stable early next week before another chance of light rain midweek.
