Louisville, KY – Several counties across central and eastern Kentucky remain under multiple Flood Advisories early this morning, with minor flooding reported in low-lying and poor-drainage areas following rounds of heavy overnight thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville and Jackson, excessive rainfall has already produced 0.5 to 1.2 inches across at least 15 counties, prompting advisories that extend through 5 a.m. EST Saturday. Affected counties include Anderson, Bullitt, Hardin, Nelson, Meade, Spencer, Washington, Breckinridge, Grayson, Hancock, Ohio, Clark, Fayette, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Woodford, Bath, Fleming, Montgomery, Rowan, Elliott, Menifee, Morgan and Powell.

Forecasters say flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in areas where drainage systems are overwhelmed. Communities reporting impacts include Elizabethtown, Bardstown, Radcliff, Lexington, Nicholasville, Winchester, Morehead, Mount Sterling, Frenchburg, Owingsville, and several smaller rural towns.

Radar estimates show heavy rainfall continuing earlier in the night, with some locations in eastern Kentucky receiving more than an inch. Additional rain of up to another inch is possible in parts of Breckinridge, Grayson, Hancock, Meade and Ohio counties, increasing the risk of minor flooding before sunrise.

Drivers may encounter ponding on highways, especially in areas with limited lighting. Emergency officials remind residents to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” and be especially cautious at night when flooded roads are harder to recognize.

Advisories are expected to expire between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. EST, though isolated low-water crossings and rural roadways may remain hazardous into the morning.
