Kentucky – Wet pavement glistens under streetlights as cold air tightens its grip across western Kentucky. A thin glaze is possible on untreated roads as temperatures slide toward freezing.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for Paducah and surrounding counties from late tonight through Sunday midday. According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, patchy freezing drizzle may develop later today and into the evening as a strong cold front pushes through. Even light icing can create slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads.

Drivers should use caution on I-24, US-60, and local city streets this afternoon and evening. Reduced visibility from mist and drizzle may complicate travel as temperatures fall. Any moisture left on roads could freeze quickly after sunset.

Behind the front, colder air settles in fast. Overnight lows drop near 10 degrees, with wind chills slipping below zero by early Sunday. The cold intensifies Sunday morning, when highs struggle to reach 20 degrees despite sunshine. Wind chills near -5 degrees will make it feel sharply colder, especially in open areas.

Sunday night remains clear and bitter, with lows near 7 degrees. Residents should protect pets, plants, and exposed pipes, and limit time outdoors during the coldest hours. Dressing in layers, hats, and gloves will be essential.

Relief arrives gradually early next week. Monday stays cold but sunny, with highs rebounding into the mid-30s. By Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures climb into the 40s and 50s, signaling a brief break from winter’s grip before another system approaches later in the week.

Winter is clearly settling in across western Kentucky. Conditions may change quickly today, so plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
