Louisville, Ky. – Strong storms are set to hit Louisville and much of central Kentucky by mid-afternoon Monday, July 21st, bringing a risk of flooding and dangerous lightning.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are likely between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, with a Flood Watch in effect through 8 p.m. EDT. Rainfall may exceed one inch in localized areas, particularly along I-64 and into Jefferson County. Temperatures will climb to 88°F, but high humidity will push heat index values into the 90s before storms roll in.

Residents should prepare for rapid downpours, gusty winds, and brief power outages. If you’re traveling Monday afternoon, expect delays and avoid low-lying or flood-prone roads. The strongest storms could bring lightning hazards, especially during the late afternoon commute.

Showers will taper Monday night, but a new round of storms could return Tuesday afternoon. Heat builds again midweek, with highs near 94°F Wednesday and Thursday.
