Jackson, KY – A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to sweep across eastern Kentucky late Sunday evening, bringing damaging winds, hail, and the potential for a brief tornado.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, KY, the storms are forecast to develop between the evening of March 30 and continue through 8 a.m. EDT on Monday, March 31. The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts, with speeds potentially exceeding 60 mph. Hail up to 1 inch in diameter is also possible, along with isolated tornadoes primarily across southeastern Kentucky.

Counties including Breathitt, Perry, Pike, Knott, and Floyd are under increased risk as outlined in the damaging wind and tornado outlooks. The NWS indicates that while all three severe weather threats are possible, wind remains the most significant hazard as the storm front pushes eastward overnight.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid travel during peak storm hours. Power outages and fallen trees are possible in areas with sustained high winds.

This storm system follows a pattern of early spring severe weather common in the region but is expected to bring more widespread impact than typical March storms.
