Louisville, Ky. – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to roll across Kentucky late Wednesday afternoon into the night, bringing the threat of damaging winds, heavy rain, and possible hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a cold front sweeping through the region could trigger storms with wind gusts over 60 mph and localized flooding. The highest threat window is from 5 p.m. to midnight, mainly along and north of the I-64 corridor. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be issued later this evening.
Residents in Jefferson, Oldham, and Shelby counties should prepare for power outages and hazardous travel conditions. Storms may produce frequent lightning and brief torrential downpours, impacting evening commutes and outdoor events. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also expected to linger into Thursday, though with less intensity.
Drivers should avoid flooded roads and secure loose outdoor items. Charge phones and devices in case of outages, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates.
Conditions improve Friday with sunshine returning and a surge in heat. Temperatures will rise into the upper 80s and low 90s this weekend, with heat index values in the mid-90s by Saturday.
Warnings remain in effect tonight, with updates expected by Thursday morning.
