Louisville, KY – A soggy start to the week will bring rain and possible thunderstorms to Kentucky, with conditions intensifying by Tuesday, New Year’s Eve. Residents should prepare for gusty winds and potential travel disruptions as 2024 approaches.

According to the National Weather Service, showers will develop tonight and persist through Tuesday, with wind gusts up to 26 mph expected. Rainfall could range from a tenth to a quarter of an inch by morning, potentially increasing during thunderstorms. Travelers should plan ahead and monitor updates, particularly on major roadways such as I-65 and I-64.

By New Year’s Day, conditions will improve with partly sunny skies and a high near 40°F. However, colder air moves in Thursday night, bringing a slight chance of snow showers. Low temperatures could drop to the mid-20s, creating the potential for icy conditions on Friday morning.

Looking ahead, Friday will be mostly sunny but colder, with highs only reaching 36°F. The weekend could see another round of wintry weather, with snow showers possible Saturday night into Sunday. Early forecasts suggest a rain-snow mix by Sunday afternoon, impacting driving conditions across central Kentucky.

Residents should keep an eye on changing forecasts and prepare for rain, wind, and potential snow later in the week. Be cautious on slick roads and consider altering travel plans as weather conditions develop.
