Kentucky – A warm breeze moves through downtown Louisville this morning, rattling flags along the Ohio River and signaling a rapidly strengthening spring storm system. Temperatures will surge into the mid-70s today, but powerful winds will soon dominate conditions across central Kentucky and southern Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Wind Advisory begins at 9 a.m. and continues into early Monday across Jefferson County and surrounding areas. South winds will increase to 20–30 mph with gusts approaching 50 mph, strong enough to blow around unsecured objects and break tree limbs.

Drivers along Interstate 64, Interstate 65, and Interstate 71 should prepare for sudden crosswinds, especially on elevated bridges crossing the Ohio River. High-profile vehicles and trucks could feel the strongest impacts during the afternoon and early evening.

Meteorologists are also tracking a line of strong to severe thunderstorms expected between late evening and early Monday morning. Damaging winds remain the main concern, though isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out as the system pushes east through Kentucky and southern Indiana.

Rain will taper Monday morning, but colder air follows quickly behind the front. Temperatures drop sharply through the day, and scattered snow showers may briefly develop Monday afternoon, especially north of Louisville into southern Indiana.

That rapid change could lead to flash freezing on untreated roads if wet pavement refreezes in colder air. Drivers should remain cautious on bridges and shaded roads during the morning commute.

Beyond the brief cold snap, calmer weather returns quickly. Sunshine builds by Tuesday and a warming trend arrives later in the week, pushing temperatures back toward the mid-60s by Thursday.

Secure outdoor furniture today and monitor weather alerts tonight as winds and storms sweep across the Louisville metro.
