Louisville, Kentucky – A noticeable shift toward milder conditions is expected across Kentucky by Thursday as temperatures rise above freezing, setting the stage for a mid-February warm-up that could change road and travel conditions statewide.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, the 8–14 day outlook valid from Friday, February 13 through Thursday, February 19 favors above-normal temperatures across much of the Commonwealth. Daytime highs are expected to climb into the upper 30s and 40s beginning Thursday, accelerating snowmelt and reducing lingering ice on roadways.

Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Owensboro, and Northern Kentucky all fall within the warmer-than-average signal, while eastern Kentucky also trends milder than seasonal norms. Overnight lows are forecast to moderate closer to or above freezing, lowering the risk of hard freezes but increasing the chance of damp road surfaces.

Precipitation probabilities trend near to slightly above normal during this period, raising the potential for rain or occasional rain-snow mix, especially during the transition to warmer air. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet notes that major corridors including I-64, I-65, I-71, and the Western Kentucky Parkway could see slick spots during periods of rainfall, particularly during the morning and evening commute windows.

The milder pattern is expected to persist into the middle of next week. Residents should stay alert for updated advisories, as additional short-term alerts may be issued if rainfall timing or localized impacts become clearer across Kentucky.
