Louisville, KY – Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are expected to drench Kentucky through Sunday night, prompting widespread flood alerts and high concern from officials.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, rainfall totals between 4 to 6 inches are forecast across central and western Kentucky, including cities like Louisville, Paducah, Bowling Green, and Elizabethtown. The heaviest rainfall is anticipated to concentrate along the I-65 corridor and westward, with localized areas potentially seeing even higher totals.
The risk for flash flooding and widespread river flooding is high, especially in areas already saturated from earlier storms. Storms will continue in waves throughout the weekend, increasing flood coverage and severity. Low-lying areas, creeks, and rivers are at particular risk of overflowing, and travel may become hazardous.
Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roads with the reminder: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Flooding is historically the leading weather-related cause of death in this region.
Residents should monitor local alerts, have emergency kits ready, and prepare for possible evacuations in flood-prone zones. Flood confidence remains high, and conditions may evolve quickly with each additional round of rain through Sunday night.
