LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Central Kentucky commuters could face dangerous driving conditions Tuesday as strong thunderstorms bring heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds. Travelers along I-65 and I-64 should prepare for slick pavement, ponding water, and low visibility during peak afternoon and evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, storms will intensify Tuesday afternoon with a risk of damaging winds up to 40 mph. Some cells may also produce small hail, frequent lightning, and brief but heavy downpours. The agency warns that storm activity may linger into Tuesday night, slowing traffic and creating hazards on neighborhood roads and major interstates alike.

Scattered storm chances continue Wednesday and Thursday, with rainfall totals adding up to more than an inch in some counties. While the threat for widespread severe weather drops after Tuesday, conditions remain unsettled through late week. Local officials advise residents to charge devices, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of lightning or downpours.

Drivers should monitor road conditions closely, especially near low-lying areas prone to flooding. Spotter activation may be needed if severe storms develop Tuesday afternoon.

Looking further ahead, drier air moves in Friday with partly sunny skies and calmer winds. Seasonal fall temperatures will settle in by next weekend, with highs in the upper 70s and nighttime lows dipping into the upper 50s.
